After Aruba gained its 
    official status as autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands 
    on January 1ST, 1986, the government of Aruba instituted the 
    Bureau of Intellectual Property in november 1987.
    Before this date Intellectual property rights used to be handled by the 
    Netherlands Antilles.
    In 1987 The Bureau started registering only Trade- and Service marks and 
    Copyrights. It expanded its services in 1995 with the Patent-Division. The 
    Bureau will very soon institute 2 new divisions, which are “ the 
    Industrial-Design Division ” and “ the I-Envelope division ”.  
    Aruba is a party to the 
    Paris Convention for the protection of Industrial Property , to other Unions 
    related to patent, like the PCT  and is also party to the BERNE Convention 
    for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. 
    Aruba became a 
    contracting party of the “Nice Agreement” (International classification) as 
    per november 8 1986.  As per january 31 of 2007 Aruba became also a 
    contracting party of the Vienna Agreement.
